Viagra has been deemed safe for human consumption by almost every medical ministry in every country. This means that in the long term, there are no significant risks to taking the drug on a regular basis - assuming that you keep to the recommended doses, and use the drug for its indicated purpose only.
However, as with any pharmaceutically derived product, there are a number of risks which consumers choose to accept when they consume the drug. Let's take a look at these possible side-effects to see whether or not the risks outweigh the benefits.
Due to the way that Viagra works in the human body, a number of physiological changes occur after the ingestion of the drug. First of all, the blood vessels in the sympathetic and soft tissue areas of the body contract - increasing pressure and ultimately resulting in the heart having to work harder than it did previously.
Users often report feeling a flushed face - which may also be visible in the cheeks - between 30 minutes and two hours after consumption of Viagra. This is one of the most common side effects, affecting up to 30% of users.
Additionally, another common side effect of the blood vessels contracting is a headache. Up to 18% of users suffer from a mild headache after the two-hour mark.
Aside from these two things, the drug is generally well tolerated in humans - hence its popularity and safety profile.
Without frightening everyone who is using or is considering the use of Viagra - a recent study has shown that Viagra users are more likely to develop hearing loss and vision loss over time. This is due to the increase in intra-ocular pressure which occurs with the contraction of the blood vessels in the body. Whilst there is no direct proof that Viagra causes these things, there have been a number of reports that this may be the case and research continues.
Even if this is true, the number of cases which have been reported is so minute that it is very difficult to link Viagra usage directly with such things. Therefore, until further research is conducted and studies are more conclusive - we would prefer to say that Viagra side-effects remain minimal.
