5 Movies That Make Me Cry

I rarely cry when I watch movies. In fact I rarely cry at all. But the following five movies always make me sob like a kid who just lost his pet.

1. GLORY with Denzel Washington

2. PHILADELPHIA

3. TITANIC

4. HOTEL RWANDA

5. SCHINDLER’S LIST

What about you? Do you have a list of movies that make you reach for the Kleenex box every time you watch them?

  1. Dr. Cason Said,

    Terms of Endearment

    The Champ

    Bawl every time.

Dr. Cason’s last blog post… Ahhh Raw Fish…Gotta Love it

  1. Lance Said,

“Armageddon” - the part at the end where Bruce Willis is saying good-bye to his daughter.

And for 98% of that movie, it’s an action movie - but that one part gets me every time.

  1. purpledsky Said,

oh, don’t ask me; because even comedies will get to me; i might take the whole space here if i were to make a list :)) i am weird like that. really good movies make me bawl like a baby.

  1. @Dr. Cason: Actually Terms of Endearment and Champ are both on my top 10.

@Lance: Yeah, I cried on that scene too. Must be the father in us, huh?

@Purpledsky: There’s some good Filipino movies that I’ve watched and cried on. I guess any movies with Sharon Cuneta… :)

  1. Vered Said,

I cry very easily in movies, but not in real life.

I don’t think I have anything to add - each and every one of those, in addition to those mentioned by the other commenters, makes me cry!

  1. RC Said,

Oh no… Not Titanic… You are admitting to that one?

I will admit Schindler’s List was a difficult movie for me to watch. Very difficult. And yes, tears were involved.

I have not seen the entire show for any of the other three - please don’t be shocked. I haven’t been able to see anything in quite a while, and when I do get a break, I’m usually heading for the nearest comedy since watching the news makes me cry.

  1. Moonstruck makes me cry every time…I think it’s just so full of life and angst and happiness and all that.

Also, I bawled at Big Fish. I love that movie.

  1. Ellie Said,

“The Cure” — My family and I watched the DVD together and all four of us were sobbing…a very inopportune time for someone to come to the door. She thought a loved one had died!

  1. I am an emotional person and cry easily over movies and when alone, but I rarely cry in front of others. I’m sure a shrink would have a field day with that. I’m happy to admit with you that I cried over Titanic too. Why wouldn’t you? Great acting and real chemistry on screen and such an epic love story. Hotel Rwanda not only made me cry but I actually went outside to my garden after I watched it and kissed the ground of my safe, privileged Australian soil. I was a new mother then and that movie affected me a lot. It also made me realise how lucky I am to be an Aussie.

What I would add to this list is Million Dollar Baby, Blood Diamond and Breaking the Waves. All these films had me bawling my eyes out, really heaving with sobs. Another old time favourite is Fried Green Tomatoes at the WhistleStop Cafe. Great film. Inspiring and heart breaking.

  1. Oh these movies are certainly tear-worthy. I cried like a baby in Glory and Schindler’s list too. I also always cry when watching Ghost (Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore) and Beaches. But I’m a total sap. I think I cried in Lion King too.

  1. Tara R. Said,

Excellent choices for your list. Glory is right up there on my top 10 of all time. I really liked Shawshank Redemption too. But, who could forget Old Yeller? (I guess that one dates me - ha!)

  1. All five are solid choices.

I would include Ordinary People and Kramer vs. Kramer.

  1. Dot H. Said,

I avoided seeing 2 of those on your list because I didn’t think I could handle them (Hotel Rwanda and Schindler’s List), wasn’t interested in Titanic (it sank, right?) and wished I hadn’t seen Glory for the same reason. Philadelphia did make me cry.

The one that gets me the most is Out of Africa — so much loss, of everything in her life. Also Message in a Bottle gets to me. And many, many others.

  1. TPS Said,

    Filler Post? wat da wat?!?
I saw all of those. Those are good movies. But thats all what they are; good movies.

  1. @TPS: Stop giving me a hard time…I’m feeling sad right now because I’ve missed you while you were away…

  1. Marelisa Said,

“The Kite Runner”; I cried practically through the entire movie.

  1. Susie Said,

I try not to cry too often due to a movie, but I’d be lying if I didn’t say that the Notebook makes me tear up everytime I watch it.

  1. Freakin’ Ghost always gets me. And Boyz N the Hood. And lately, music videos where people seem really happy and in love choke me up. Weird.

  1. Seth Said,

Great list of real tear jerkers! I have formulated a big list of movies, songs, and books that get people going. For each category you can vote on what got you going the most, or add your own pick! Then we can all find out what gets us the most. For the list you can find it at http://www.squidoo.com/madecry! Great movies!

  1. FilmFather Said,

    Monsters, Inc.

Maybe it’s because I’m the father of two young kids, but at the end of Monsters, Inc., when Sully (aka “Kitty”) tucks in Boo and tells her “Kitty has to go,” and Boo jumps up and hugs him…man, I just crumble every time.

  1. Donna Said,

  1. pallavi Said,

Hey Im Pallavi from India. I cry while watching movies. I had gone to see Sridevi’s movie Sadma, in which she is mentally retarted, actor kamal hasan takes care of her and @ the end when she recovers, she is unable to recognize him and leaves him. I started sobbing so much at the end, that I was crying while moving out of the theatres in corridors also, also after going home, i went into my room and cried.
Another serial I was watching at some neighbour’s place and there was an emotional scene, they also had some guests at home and I started crying while watching the serial there too. I am very emotional. Even while writing this i am sobbing.
