Prom Night

Tonight, June 5, 2008 is Prom Night for our Family Genius. I’m going to leave work early so that I can be sure that I will be there when Prom Date Dude picks-up my second oldest child, my oldest daughter. Am I excited? You bet! Am I worried? Of course not.

Why would I be worried? I’m sure that they will have a great time. Without a doubt PDD will treat my daughter with respect and dignity. I’ve sized him up and have seen that his intentions are noble.

Besides, as I stated before, I know where he lives. In addition, TFG has a black belt in taekwondo, but of course she will never be compelled to use it because PDD is a very NICE young man. I am quite sure that PDD doesn’t have any crazy sleazy thoughts that a normal 18 year old boy would have. He is different.

So, I’m not worried…not a bit. I would sleep well tonight knowing that my daughter is enjoying her Prom Night. I won’t be one of those dads who will keep getting up to check whether his daughter has arrived safely from the prom. I probably won’t even call her cell phone because I know she won’t be able to hear it from all the music and dancing that she’s going to do.

Man, who am I kidding. If I could stalk her tonight, I would. Better yet, if I can make her not go to her prom, I would.

Thank God I have more boys than girls. At least, I will only go through this one more time when Smiley Face goes to her prom.

I am so glad that I was such a gentleman on my prom night, at least I won’t have to worry about karma. Now, with my prom date…well, that’s another story.

So to TFG and PDD, enjoy yourself and treasure this moment. Please remember to respect each other. And most importantly, please remember that you’re both under 21.

DON’T DRINK!

ENJOY!

    A black belt in taekwondo? Wow. Ultimately you just have to know that you’ve raised TFG so that you can sleep comfortably on her prom night. I hope that she has a great time!

    Ah, the WORRIES.

    I have two girls. I am NOT looking forward to dealing with everything that I know I would have to deal with as they grow up.

  1. Tara R. Said,

    I have a 3rd degree black belt in taekwondo… that is one of the first things any of my daughter’s dates found out about me, and that I was very good at what I did. She’s a really good kid, but I will always worry.

    They make some pretty cheap GPS tracking devices for cars nowadays… Maybe a quick investment? ;-) Just kidding - I’m sure she will be fine!

    Stalking dads suck, Chris. It will be ok…just wait up and frisk her when she gets home. ;)

    I’m enrolling my daughter to take up taekwondo or aikido. When’s the earliest I can do that? Right now, she’s only 11 months old. :-)

  1. @Aunt Becky–Girl how did your dad deal with Prom Night…LOL

    @Tara R.–The Family Genius is a great kid also, but the problem is that she is a teenager…

    @RC–Shoot! I could’ve totally put a camera on her bag or dress…

    @Grandy–Frisking, hmmmm…

    @Purpledsky–Ask her not to grow-up or at least by pass the teenage years.

    @Vered–Isolation or living on a deserted Island might work.

  1. Storm Said,

    be strong, chris, be strong!

  1. I have two teenage girls. I’m worried now after reading this post. Chris, you need to do a follow-up post on this to let us know how things went. I love to know as a father that after all Prom night can be a fun experience for my daughter without an undue risk.

  1. Chris,

    You trust her, and she knows it. She won’t let you down.

  1. It’s hard being a father, but you have a good attitude. You can only teach so much before they have to go out and just do it on their own. When they do, you really do have to trust them. They will mess up every now and again, but that’s ok because they’ll learn from it and become a stronger person.

  1. @Vered–I haven’t had the details because she went out for breakfast right when she got back and I had to go to work. I examined the dress and it’s in tact and it seems as though there’s no signs of Monica Lewinskyesque moment.

  1. faeryrowan Said,

    Should a mother of two boys worry about girls with black-belters as fathers? I’ll try my best to raise them to be nice and good boys. ;)

    Love your blog. I’m adding it to my links. Exchange?
